coffee conversations

Coffee with Ameena #6

If we were having coffee, I’d apologize for having to postpone our Tuesday coffee date to Wednesday. Some days, life throws curveballs which we have no way of fore seeing and living is in learning to surf through them. I’d ask how your week has been so far? If on a scale of ten it’d get a high score or sink down to “it’s one of those weeks”.

If we were having coffee, I would ask you if you have a list of things you’d like to do before you kick the bucket (not literally). If like me, there are some things you could absolutely never do, like sky diving. I would ask you if you have any phobias, which is quite common in the population actually. I would ask you… what are you afraid of?

If we were having coffee, I would ask you, are you happy? Are you happy with who you are as a person? Are you happy with where you are in life. Are you constantly searching for the silver lining in the storm, or is life really just “testing your spirit”. Are you happy to see the changing colors of the sky at sunrise? Are you hopeful when your head meets the pillow at night. I would ask you to answer honestly because our coffee date is a safe space and a no judgement place.

If we were having coffee, I’d ask you if you are a fool for love. Are you a hopeless romantic or a realist. Would you take the first step when it comes to love or would you stay waiting to be approached. Do you believe that the people we’ve loved in the past have an impact on how we love in the present and future. Do you think love is enough?

If we were having coffee, I will express my frustrations about people who complain of contemporary poetry being “difficult to understand”, when they’ve barely scratched the surface of the phenomenal poets of the 20th and 21st century. I will tell you that I am currently having a “women in poetry” theme this month on instagram, where I post a poem by a female poet each day on my story, in order to familiarize people to the great pool of female writers how have lived and are living.

If we were having coffee, I’d ask you is there anything you’d like to vent about, please feel free.

Finally, as I sip my last few drops of black coffee, remembering all, of the people who have lectured me on why I shouldn’t be taking coffee (starting from my mum), I’d thank you for joining me on this coffee date. I would give you an extra tight hug this week because it is an extra love kind of week and I hope you pass the love across.

  1. If we were having coffee I would say I am content with my life, I am trying to find happiness in the little things that happen everyday. I would say Alhamdulilah for where my life is right now. I would tell you about how I have just started working and it’s been a lonely kind of week but I am trying to make new acquaintances so I can at least keep a semblance of a conversation going.
I will tell you to keep drinking your coffee as I am an avid tea drinker too and I can’t even bear d thought of not drinking tea, we all have to have a lil vice ….. I would continue to sip my tea and go on with my thoughts till we meet again next week.
